PLATFORM Orbit Rate Mode Position
Orbit Rate (ORB RATE) is used to maintain attitude reference during spacecraft maneuvers. ORB RATE mode is initially free except for the pitch gyro. The pitch gyro is torqued at approximately four degrees per minute to maintain a horizontal attitude with respect to the earth. If ORB RATE mode is used for long periods of time, drift can cause excessive errors in the platform.
